PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, celebrated Basant Panchami with great
fervor and devotion. Observed on the fifth day of the bright half of the Hindu
month of Magha, this festival marks the arrival of spring and is dedicated to
Goddess Saraswati—the embodiment of wisdom, knowledge, music, and the arts.
Commonly known as Saraswati Puja, the day holds immense significance in the
realm of learning and education.
Since Goddess Saraswati is revered as the goddess of wisdom and learning,
Vidhya Arambha—the ritual of initiating young children into formal education—is
an important tradition observed on this day.
The college campus was adorned with vibrant yellow flowers, kites, and festive
decorations, as yellow is the symbolic color of Basant Panchami, representing
energy, prosperity, and the golden fields of spring. Faculty and students
embraced the festive spirit by dressing in shades of yellow, signifying
enlightenment and knowledge.
The celebration commenced with Principal Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar leading the
invocation of Goddess Saraswati. Holy hymns were chanted in reverence to the
Goddess, followed by the offering of flowers. Prasad was distributed among all,
fostering a sense of spiritual fulfillment. Students also upheld the traditional
practice of kite flying, symbolizing the joy and vibrancy of the spring season.
True to its ethos, PCM S.D. College for Women takes immense pride in
celebrating cultural and traditional festivals that connect students to their roots
and instill a deep appreciation for heritage. The event was successfully organized
by the Home Science Association and the Youth Club of the college.
On this auspicious occasion, President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice
President Shri Vinod Dada, the other honourable members of the managing
committee and Principal Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar extended their heartfelt
congratulations to the students and faculty, appreciating their enthusiasm in
making the celebration a grand success.
